Customer Review: Serious problems
I've been using TC for about 15 years. During this time my returns have become increasingly complex as my business has expanded (sole proprietorships, office buildings) and my personal situation has changed (elderly parents needing assistance, children in/out of college/jobs). TC has been able to handle most of this, but this year I ran into some serious problems. Here they are: 1. It's always difficult to coax TC into calculating Fed estimated taxes for the new tax year. This problem continues. 2. Whenever hypertext or help is selected, the program responds with a script error. The help screen can be accessed, but the script error message must first be cleared. This becomes increasingly annoying as the return is prepared, but not fatal. 3. The worst problem this year involved making and editing itemized lists. I use this feature a lot so that the next tax year it can guide my entries based on the previous year. This way I don't have to re-study the help screens to decide whether this or that item is considered an 'office supply' or 'misc expense'; whether an item should be put on Sched E as a rental expense or on Sched C as a business expense, etc. I had finished about 75% of my Fed return and suddenly TC would crash whenever I tried to edit or modify an existing itemized list. I went back and tried to edit a number of lists, but couldn't view the lists and TC crashed and closed each time. I contacted HRBlock via chat to determine how to fix this. After the usual waiting..........explaining...............I was told that this problem was not new and that the fix was simple. All I had to do was discard the 07 return, go back to the 06 return and delete-item by item- all of the itemized lists in that return, re-import the 06 return to the 07 return, and then just re-enter all of the data into the new 07 return........... DISCARD WHAT NOW? GO BACK WHERE NOW? This is an ENTIRELY UNSATISFACTORY solution, I said. Re-creating the 07 return would take days, what other solutions are there? None!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I checked over and printed out the 07 return and found that the lists were still intact (but inaccessible to editing) and that the calculations based on the lists were correct. So I just completed the return workng around the list editing problem. This is an awful problem. I don't know what will happen when I try to import this 07 return into the 08 return next year. Will the lists be there or not, will the numbers import properly or not, what will happen? As a result, I'm seriously considering TurboTax.

Customer Review: If you file from a MAC forget TaxCut this year!
Well, I guess it had to happen eventually. This product is a total and complete failure on the Mac side. Not only did I have to wait 2 weeks for the state version to become available, but when I tried to file, there appears to be a software glitch and the system won't allow me to efile, it just boots me back to the efile main screen. I called customer service 3 times so far and each and every one of them was absolutely horrible. One even started arguing with me when I had to explain to him how his own product worked! Anybody ever seen the documentary "India Calling"? I will NEVER use one of their products again...ever.

As with all software, the user interface and its workflow has its quirks. Some of it you may find counter-intuitive and not very helpful. Customer Review: Beautiful
I am a huge fan of the Mission-style in furniture and have several natural-colored pieces in my apartment. The finish on this piece is very smooth and light. I only saw one scratch mark on one of the sides, but it is not very noticeable unless you look extra close. Assembly was also pretty easy if you follow the directions carefully. It took me about 15 minutes to put together by myself, but I'm sure if there are two people, it would go faster. This file cart is being used as a night stand right now. The height of the table top is perfect because it allows me to read the alarm clock when I am laying down. The shelf is perfect for storing books or magazines. The only downside is that the drawer bottom is pretty flimsy (the drawer really was made for file storage). I'm sure there are some methods to re-enforce the bottom that would make it suitable for moderate storage.

Customer Review: This is Dylan at his Best, Doing What he does Best
This record got a lot of bad press when it came out in the middle of 1978. Bob Dylan had a lot going on at the time. His custody battle with Sara, putting a band together, money problems (or so I've heard), getting his Rundown Studios up to snuff, but through it all, he put out this masterpiece. Yeah, I said masterpiece. I just love this record. The nay sayers are just wrong. I think they were just looking for a reason to criticize Dylan. But think about it, they'd been doing that since the man was a kid. Just when they think they've got him pegged, just when Dylan has turned them onto a new style, a new sound, he goes and changes on them. Well, if they didn't like this change, imagine what they were in for in just a little over a year. Yes, I'm talking about Slow Train Bob Dylan's overtly Christian album. Now that was a change. The opening song, "Changing of the Guard" tells the listener straightaway that they are hearing a brand new Dylan sound. Bob's gone and got himself a big band, complete with female backup, harmonizing singers. I love this sound, love the poetry of the lyrics, even love the Biblical references. This is Dylan at his best, doing what he loves best, delivering a new sound with new and original lyrics. This is another one of those must have records for any Dylan fan. Customer Review: I thought it was a good book when I first read it, but it appears some facts were left out
Here is the real story behind Mr. Stonecipher's lawsuit: [...] The story is company legend. In 1969, Harland C. Stonecipher, founder of Pre-Paid Legal Services, was involved in a car accident. The driver of the other car survived the crash. But, as Stonecipher later wrote in a corporate memoir, "I faced thousands of dollars in legal costs stemming from an accident in which I was blameless." The experience gave him the idea to start a business charging customers a monthly fee to cover future legal expenses. Today, Pre-Paid (PPD ) has more than 1.2 million customers paying an average of $21 a month to access its network of lawyers. Revenues of the New York Stock Exchange-traded company topped $300 million last year, and at a recent price of $29, its stock is trading at a healthy 19 times the last 12 months' earnings. Stonecipher's account of his accident leaves out a few details, however. According to his attorney at the time and copies of the suits obtained by BusinessWeek Online, he was the first to sue in court for injuries. He later settled. Meanwhile, the driver of the other car sued Stonecipher the following year for just a fraction of what Stonecipher had sought for injuries incurred in the accident. A spokesperson for Pre-Paid says only that Stonecipher's recollection of the events are 33 years old. NUMEROUS CHARGES. A growing number of Pre-Paid's customers and salespeople say they think its sale's pitch is also missing a few details. Pre-Paid laid out $1.5 million in 2001 to settle a series of suits from customers in Alabama who claimed that it overstated the amount of legal coverage it offered. Since then, at least 20 new cases involving 113 former customers and salespeople have been filed in that state. In March, four former salespeople filed a fraud and breach-of-contract suit in Oklahoma, this time accusing Pre-Paid of operating an "illegal pyramid scheme." On Apr. 19, two other former customers filed suit in Pre-Paid's home state of Oklahoma, alleging breach of contract, negligent hiring, training, and supervision, and other violations of the state's consumer protection act. Pre-Paid says the suits are without merit and were initiated by attorneys who advertised for plaintiffs. The suits are proof, says one company executive, of the "need for a legal service like ours in this litigious society." JUST ONE WORD. But the escalating number of cases could become a burden for Pre-Paid, whose stock has more than doubled in the last year. "Members are not given sufficient information to know what they are buying," says Edward E. Angwin, a Birmingham (Ala.) attorney behind many of the suits. "We want them to stop selling the product as it is." The recurring theme in the litigation is that Pre-Paid's salespeople overstate what its membership contracts cover. In the suits, former salespeople and customers claim that they're told Pre-Paid will cover all of a person's legal needs. Indeed, in a copy of its in-house magazine distributed to salespeople last year, Pre-Paid board member David A. Savula wrote: "All you have to know is the word: Yes. Does our product cover everything? Yes. So if somebody asks does it cover this or does it cover that, we're going to say, 'Yes.'" However, Savula's article goes on to recommend that salespeople walk prospective customers through the company's brochures, which detail benefits more specifically. NOT COVERED. A review of sample Pre-Paid contracts shows many limitations. Cases involving bankruptcy, alcohol, drugs, pre-existing conditions, wage garnishment, divorce, annulment, child custody, class actions, hit and runs, driving without a license, civil or criminal charges associated with a business, and commercial vehicles over two axles aren't covered. Nor are any "claim, defense, or legal position which, in the opinion of the Provider Attorney, will not prevail in court." Pre-Paid provides for 60 hours of trial time per year, but pretrial work -- the bulk of most cases -- is limited to 2.5 hours per year in a basic policy. Pre-Paid provides its service through a network of designated law firms, typically one per state. Customers whose legal work falls in uncovered areas are offered the ability to contract with Pre-Paid's attorneys at a discount of 25% off the hourly rates. Those fees can be high, says Robert Schweikert, a 61-year-old food vendor in Charlotte, N.C. He became a Pre-Paid salesman and customer in March, 2000. Schweikert says he twice tried to use Pre-Paid's attorneys for services he thought were covered under his membership, once to add a new beneficiary to his will and a second time to incorporate a new business. In each case, Schweikert says, Pre-Paid's representative wanted additional compensation to do the work. In the case of the business document, the fee was twice what Schweikert's regular attorney charged. RESTATED FINANCIALS. "Everything you do with them costs money," says Schweikert, who is one of the plaintiffs in the first suit seeking class action status in Oklahoma. "The services were not what they were advertised." Pre-Paid says it won't comment on the specifics of any ongoing cases, but it asserts that it more than adequately discloses what it covers and that Schweikert has never complained directly to Pre-Paid about his coverage. Pre-Paid is no stranger to controversy. It has publicly battled short-sellers -- investors who bet that the stock will fall -- for years. In 1987, Pre-Paid asked the American Stock Exchange to investigate possible manipulation of the stock by short-sellers. In 2001, it changed its accounting methods and restated its financials at the request of the Securities & Exchange Commission. Pre-Paid had been booking commissions advanced to salespeople as an asset rather than expensing them in its earnings. Pre-Paid ultimately restated three years worth of results, cutting earnings in half and reducing assets by two-thirds for that period. In a letter to shareholders announcing the change, PrePaid's chairman wrote: "We are now required to expense commission advances when paid. Doing so does not change our ultimate profitability; it only changes the timing of reported profits. Even after restating reported results, we were quite profitable in 2001, and we grew." NO PAIN? Pre-Paid has had some good news in the courtroom. In March, a suit from shareholders regarding the accounting changes was dismissed, in part, because the judge found that "reasonably diligent investors" could have investigated the allegations using public SEC filings. On Apr. 22, Pre-Paid announced that a record 200,000 new members had signed up for its services in its most recent quarter. Revenues increased 17%, to $82 million, and earnings were up an equal percentage, to $8.8 million. Allen H. Lee, an analyst at Allen Financial Advisors doesn't think the lawsuits will hurt Pre-Paid's finances. "So far, there hasn't been any impact," Lee says. "It has had them before. It's a 30-year-old company." Pre-Paid may yet triumph over its latest suits, but for a company that aims to solve people's legal troubles, it certainly has attracted a large share of its own.

Customer Review: Questionable construction
I bought this security file to keep personal documents safe from fire and would-be theives but found out that the construction of this file left something to be desired. After opening and closing the heavy lid to access the documents a couple times a week over the course of two months, I noticed that the rear hinge began to break. The hinge section, which is supposed to support the weight of the 5-lb. lid, is only constructed of two tiny pins. When the lid is opened all the way, beyond a 90-degree angle, serious pressure is placed on the pins, causing them to gradually twist right off and allowing the lid to break off! (In the company's defense, they replaced the broken file with a new one in a couple weeks.) So if you are looking for something just to store your valuables in and you don't intend to access them often, then this security file may be for you. But the questionable construction of this "security file" may not make you feel so secure.

Off the Map avoids conventional drama (hardly any event leads to an outcome you could expect) but the lean, sharp dialogue and superb performances make this movie a rich, human comedy. A young girl named Bo, living in the New Mexico desert, rebels against her bohemian parents by reading Forbes magazine and applying for credit cards. Her father Charley (Sam Elliott, Tombstone) has sunk deep into a paralyzing depression; her resilient, industrious mother Arlene (Joan Allen, The Upside of Anger) alternates between gently supporting Charley and railing against his zombie-like state. Into this off-balance family comes a tax auditor (Jim True-Frost, Singles), who--after being stung by a bee and lapsing into a sudden fever--becomes an accidental catalyst for change. In her movie debut as Bo, Valentina de Angelis gives a wonderful performance, head and shoulders above most actors her age. Campbell Scott's direction, as with his first film Big Night, is warm but not sappy; he has a gift for letting a story wander without it ever getting lost. A beautiful movie set in northern New Mexico in a simple time. A family lives in the NM high desert rural land reminiscent of "the 60s" style living. The story is occasionally narrated through the eyes of the daughter, now adult. The acting is superb. It is movie that deals with depression, eocnomic hardship, challenge, and family issues without judgment, blame, or violence. An outsider joins the family and becomes involved in their lives in an integral way. It is refreshing to see a movie where there are no bad guys. Off the Map offers a transformative theme and is a wonder to see. The natural beauty adds to its depth. It is hard to imagine coming away from this movie without feeling sad yet edified about life. I heartily thank my friend and author M. Quest who recommended this to me!

I have had a few lesser expensive tap and die sets before, and none have looked as nice or performed as well as this one. I splurged on this set as opposed to the 76 piece set because this has many more drill bits and bit extractors. The quality in the materials and crafstmanship is top notch, it all came in a well constructed carrying case. This is a very comprehensive set that covers most any size you would ever need. I have a Honda motorcycle, Arctic Cat ATV, GM truck, and a VW Jetta and I double checked most all of the bolts on those vehicles and this kit has me pretty well covered. There is nothing worse than getting most of the way through a project and needing a tool to finish. We have all been there and this is the kit that will get you out of alot of jams with stripped bolt/nuts and broken off bolts. I found Amazon's prices to be the best around, although sometimes they say something is "in stock" and it doesn't ship for a week. Is it in stock or is it not Amazon? overall Amazon has good prices and I have always gotten my items, it is just a bit of a shipping delay sometimes.

As you can guess by this album's title, this 2-disc set was recorded to aid in the relief of Willie Nelson's tax problems. But instead of merely compiling older tracks or demos, Willie entered the studio to record two dozen fresh solo interpretations of some of his more interesting early compositions. With his guitar and voice demonstrating equal drama and emotion, he brings back a few obscurities, many genuinely hearbreaking tunes (he no doubt wanted no-one at the I.R.S. to crack anything resembling a grin), and a few tunes made famous by other performers. Thoughout the whole of the program, his performances are intimate and intriguing -- the listener feels as though they are in Nelson's tour bus or living room, sharing a true moment. Rather smartly, this set was initially marketed only through direct marketing. Unfortunately, it remains out of print, deserving a kinder fate. Here's your chance to hear music as its creator intended: raw, often painful, sometimes goofy, and leaving you wanting more.

Customer Review: Excellent lost gem!
I have this on cassette. And it is nearly worn out. This is an incredible album by a band that was almost entirely looked over because they are out of Detroit in an era where if you weren't out of LA you were pretty much overlooked. Right from the beginning with the opening track you can tell this is going to be raw edged, gritty album. Not overproduced at all, this record captures the sound of those early-80's days of LA glam rock, like early Ratt and Motley Crue. Before their sound became overproduced. Interesting tidbit, the song Crash Landing is about flight 255 that crashed taking off from Detroit Metro airport. The band had the song written and recorded with no lyrics. When the plane crashed they had the inspiration to write the lyrics to the song. One of the harder songs on the album, it is probably my favorite.

Customer Review: My new notebook case
I purchased this case to replace my old one. I found this case a bit too tall and thick. I don't find it comfortable to carry this case using the shoulder straps. But it's made of good materials and the inner dividers are OK. I don't like the fact the main compartment does not open fully to 90 degrees angle but only to approximately 40 degrees.

I work for a company that has 10 retail stores, and all are equipped with fax machines. I'm slowly replacing various brand fax machines with the HP 1040. So far, all of the HP 1040 fax machines are working flawlessly. I'm amazed at all the negative reviews for the HP 1040 fax machine on Amazon. Most people will not leave a positive review for a product that is working fine for reasons such as.... Customer Review: Alfred Newman's Final Epic Bow
Varese Sarabande has again done credit to the genre of great film scores with their recent release of the expanded (if not full) Alfred Newman score for George Stevens' production of "The Greatest Story Ever Told" (Newman and Stevens had also worked together on "Gunga Din," one of Newman's best efforts). The film title missed the mark a bit as far as the film is concerned. This is probably not the greatest of the Bible epics, but it is an interesting entry nevertheless. For those of us who live in the area of Lake Powell and southern Utah it is a trip to view this film with its very familiar Red Rock backdrops filling in for Palestine. And the acting was in many cases first rate. Newman's score was also an enormous plus. Perhaps not one of his best, it was certainly a great score. Based largely on a major theme that is clearly reminiscent of his earlier score for "The Robe," this is a major triumph, as is this three disc presentation. Nicely packaged and produced at an unbelievable price, this is a must for film score buffs. Disc one contains the original soundtrack recording (with updated sound)including Handel's chorus from "The Messiah" which Stevens' insisted upon using instead of Newman's own ending. Curiously, Newman's choral "Exit Music" would have been a much better fit for the film and is included here. Discs two and three include the majority of Newman's original score, as he intended it. It is really majestic stuff, although much of the score took a sombre tone. I cannot wait to enjoy this score driving down the Burr Trail. It is music that mataches the grand landscape, and the greatest story ever told.

Not only is this something for X-Files fans, but also for anyone who is a fan of 90s music. Love the Foo Fighters version of "Down In The Park". Also Nick Caves' "Red Right Hand",that song you always heard but wern't sure who sang it. The opening theme song is so powerful sounding you almost forget that this is music for some sci-fi telvision show on Fox; Full length version too. No heavy metal from Filter however. Rob Zombies song is pretty loud and intense. The REM song is just some music with some old guy talking rather than singing, pretty dumb. I know an X-Files sdrk should have some weirdness but the REM song is one to forget. There are two hidden tracks on this cd. The only way to hear them is to rewind past the first track on your cd player.

I discovered Rodney Hunter on the Hotel Costes series. All I can say is--This man is BAD!!!!!!!!!!! Hunter Files grooves from beginning to end with relentless grooves, smoooove vocals and excellent production. The man does it all save a the vocals, and that's cool cuz cats like Ken Cesar and Hubert Tubbs do an outstanding job singing over Hunter's super-funky @$$ bass lines. Hunter Files can be thrown on at your next house party, but I've also found it strangely relaxing at night while I'm chillin'. Stand out tracks are the throbbin' "Work That Body" and "Let Your Soul Guide Your Heart"...the reggae infused "Find It"... and the neo-funky "Is This Your Boy". These are personal faves of course, but take my word for it the whole set is tight as #*!! Rodney Hunter is definitely worth checking out if you haven't already. Highly Recommended!!!

Customer Review: Experimental music that works.
Its very rare when someone actually concocts enjoyable experimental music. Generally, academia over takes the album, which in turn only makes the album listenable to the hardcore devoted or the most elite of listeners. What I love about File Under Futurism is that actually maintains a balance between sound exerimentation and straightforward music. To me, the results are quite stunning. Starting off with fast-paced complex title track, the song is a wrap up of drum n' bass breaks, hyper-speed bass playing, cello-driven melody and various other turntablist noise. The results are quite exciting, since it really inspires a sound not heard. From there, the album becomes a playground for all sorts of weird experimentation from downtempo trip-hop, hardcore drill n' bass, post rock workouts, and various sound collages(the track The RCA Mark II Synthesizer was apparently recorded on the first synthesizer ever made). Despite all the genre-hoping, a definitive sound remains creating a cohesive project. Its involving, intoxicating, and otherworldly brilliant. It strikes the perfect balance between listenability and wild experimentation. An essential album for fans of the genre and anyone looking for a forward looking band.
